There was a glut of TV evangelists that exploded concurrently with the appointment of the Reagan Administration. This happy accident provided a ready-made pool of constituents that could rally around the "cause". With the constant reminder of God's will in regard to abortion, the never ending war on drugs, and the "Evil Empire", this alleged coalition of God's views (read their views) can be bellowed on their TV shows as well as the TV news. The TV News' reporting on the evangelists' interpretation of God's word always seems incorruptible. This convenience is supported by this fact ... God's word can never be judged. Thus, the rise of tele-evangelism was thrust forward through heated argument and angry debate which otherwise would not have been given any credence. If you weren't on God's side (read their side), than you weren't on their side. The fall of the tele-evangilists was marked with the usual trademarked anger and heated debate. Some had fully entered the political arena and lost. Some had committed embezzlement and were jailed. Some had intercourse with prostitutes and other men's wives and fell from grace. In short, people in glass TV tubes shouldn't throw stones.
